Christopher L. Istace started writing in his early teens, covering local sports and school activities for the weekly newspaper in his hometown of Whitewood, Sask., Canada.

After graduating from high school, he attended two years of pre-journalism at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, but was anxious to begin his writing career. His impatience won out and he left university to begin work in print journalism for several weekly newspapers in Saskatchewan, Canada beginning in 1995. He has held various positions in the industry, including reporting, editing, co-publishing and sales.

Christopher has covered everything from federal elections to senior citizen club gatherings, but his success is found in writing feature articles. In 2008 and 2009, he was presented with the Saskatchewan Weekly Newspaper Association's Premier Award for Best Feature Story. In 2010, he won the SWNA Premier Award for Best Saskatchewan Cultural Story and for Best Saskatchewan Recreation Story.

Today, more than 20 years after his first article went to print, he works on a freelance basis. He continues to write for weekly newspapers, but also has credits in the Regina Leader-Post - the province's largest daily - and the Western Producer, a weekly agricultural publication that has subscribers located throughout Western Canada.

"This Attempted Life" is a blog he authors to exercise his writing skills, particularly in the areas of humor, songwriting and journalism.

Besides writing, Christopher plays rhythm guitar and sings in a country-rock band called The Old 21. His other interests include sports, kayaking, hiking, hunting, fishing, non-fiction books and independent film.

Christopher currently lives in Moosomin, Sask. with his wife, Coral, and two children.
